THE ROOT SLAM

Terisa is one of the founding members of The Root Slam, along with Janae Johnson, Natasha Huey, Isa Borgeson, Gabriel Cortez, and Jade Cho. The Root Slam’s mission is to create an inclusive and socially just space to promote the artistic growth of the poetry community in the Bay Area.

We want to be a place where poetry, creativity, and innovation thrive and artists support and challenge one another to grow. We encourage participants to bring new work and develop it to the point of excellence. We are guided by values centering the voices of Black, indigenous, and people of color artists; queer, trans, gender non-conforming, femme, and women poets; working class/low-income, disabled, im/migrant and undocumented folks.
